Zvonereva Wins the WTA Finals; is the Best of the Best in Cancun
—
It has been a spectacular close to the season for Team athlete, Vera Zvonereva (Tour Bite Soft).
The seasoned athlete, a former World No. 4, achieved an impressive series of victories, securing four doubles titles in the span of just four months: Washington D.C., Ningbo, Nanchang, and the WTA Finals. All were achieved alongside her doubles partner, Laura Siegumund.
Zvonereva and Siegumund proved to be the best of the best in women’s doubles after winning the WTA Finals in Cancun. They beat out No. 8 seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in a straight set victory, 6-4, 6-4.
Zvonareva (39) is one of the oldest players to have qualified for Cancun in either doubles or singles this year.
She had previously qualified for the WTA Finals doubles event back in 2007. She also made five appearances in singles, including a runner-up finish in 2008 against Venus Williams.
At 39, Zvonareva is four years older than any other qualifier at the Cancun event. Her journey to the WTA Finals is a testament to her enduring skill and tenacity in the sport. Just a few months ago, a Zvonereva / Siegemund appearance at the WTA Finals seemed unlikely. However, following their impressive run to the finals at the US Open, the duo have not only entered the conversation, but end the year in the top 10 rankings.
We look forward to what the future holds for this powerhouse Team Solinco athlete.
